Community Update- April 23rd Board Meeting

I hope this message finds you well. I’m excited to share updates from the  April 23rd  Board Meeting, where we celebrated the incredible accomplishments and efforts happening across our district. As a district, we strive to communicate effectively with all individuals, and we believe this recap will be beneficial to everyone.

We began the April 23rd Board Meeting, as we always do, by celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of our students.

Congratulations to our BGISD students who excelled at the Navarro County Youth Expo. We had numerous students earn top honors, including 1st in class, Reserve Grand Champion, and Grand Champion across a variety of categories such as crafts, food, ag mech projects and livestock showing. These achievements reflect an incredible amount of hard work and dedication. We would like to thank our parents for the time and commitment they invest in supporting their children through these projects. A special thank you also goes to our AG teachers, Kyle Allen and Sarah Southerd, for the passion and effort they pour into our programs and students.

We also proudly recognized two of our middle school students, Braddock Bell and Emma Taff, who traveled to Atlanta to compete in the Global Amazing Shake competition. Competing against more than 500 students from 27 states and 3 countries, they demonstrated exceptional professionalism, leadership, and character. Their performance on such a large stage truly represents what makes Blooming Grove ISD special, and we are incredibly proud of how they represented our community.

The major item of business for the evening was the approval of the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for the elementary construction project. District administration, along with Claycomb Architects and Bounds Construction, have worked diligently to ensure every dollar of this project is maximized for the benefit of our students and staff. We are proud to announce that the Board approved the GMP, marking a significant step forward in improving our district facilities.

Construction on the elementary campus, which is Phase One of the bond project, will begin very soon. The new fence surrounding the back playground is scheduled to begin next week. Additionally, work on the parking lot, new roadway, and campus expansion structures will begin as soon as the school year concludes. We are confident that these improvements will greatly enhance traffic flow and parking for our staff and families by the start of the school year in August. We are excited to officially break ground on this project.

Planning for the high school/junior high, field house, and CTE building is in its final stages. These projects will be completed in phases to minimize disruption to students and staff. Despite the continued rise in construction material costs, we are extremely pleased to report that all projects outlined in the bond plan remain on track. Delivering on the commitments made to our taxpayers, students, and staff continues to be a top priority.

The Board also approved several routine items, including the purchase of library books, student and athletic insurance for the 2026–2027 school year, and the hiring of a brokerage firm to facilitate the sale of long-held district shares.

Finally, we are excited to welcome four new members to the BGISD team. Misty Vasquez and Ericka Janak will be joining our elementary campus. Grant McMillan has been approved as our Boys Basketball Coach, and Nicholas Claiborne will serve as our Girls Basketball Coach and Girls Coordinator. We are excited to have them join our district and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our students.

(We will provide a welcome announcement for our elementary teachers soon)
