Good afternoon, Blooming Grove Family,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to provide everyone with an important update regarding the completion of construction at the high school and junior high school. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen delays in the ongoing construction, we will not be able to enter the building as originally planned. I understand that this news may be disappointing and may cause some concerns about preparation for the upcoming school year. Through extensive conversations with the administration team and the construction crew, we have come to the conclusion that it is best for our students and staff to delay the start of the school year. This decision was made with the best interest of students and staff in mind. We understand the elementary school is ready to start as usual; however, in order to maintain consistency in our district minutes, this delay will impact all campuses.
The following changes to the instructional calendar will occur
- August 21st- August 23rd will now be teacher work days. 8:00-4:00
- Students will return to school on all campuses on August 26th.
- January 14th, which was previously a teacher workday, will now be an instructional day for students. January 13th will still be designated as a professional development day.
A plan has been established to create the least amount of change in the future for our students and staff. We are fortunate to be able to use our banked district minutes to compensate for the loss of instructional minutes. By adding an instructional day on January 14th, we are above the required minutes designated by TEA.
All activities previously scheduled will continue as planned. Staff will be available to help parents with registration on August 15th, 5:00-8:00, at the elementary school. We will still have Meet the Teacher and Meet the Lions on August 19th.
Please know that we take this situation very seriously and are committed to starting the school year with validity and success. It is important to BGISD to deliver this message as fast as possible so families can plan. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate this delay together.
John Griggs, Superintendent
